Emilio Mordini is an MD (University of Rome La Sapienza) and MAPhil (Pontifical University S.Thoma). He is a psychoanalyst and founding director of the Centre for Science, Society and Citizenship. He was partner of the Psychoanalytic Institute for Social Research (1986-2001), professor of bioethics in the Medical School of the University of Rome "La Sapienza" (1994-2005), member (1994-2000) and secretary (2000-2004) of the Bioethical Commission of the Italian National Research Council.He is external fellow of the Center for Public Health Security at Haifa University.

Since 1992 Emilio has participated as a coordinator or a workpackage leader in 21 EC funded projects in the scope of European RT&D Framework Programs (FP) 4, 5, 6 and 7. He is currently coordinating HIDE - Homeland security, biometric identification & personal detection ethics (GA 217762); RISE - Rising pan-European and International Awareness of Biometrics and Security Ethics (GA 230389); VALUE-AGEING - Incorporating European fundamental values into ICT for ageing (GA 251686).

Emilio serves as member of the EC Expert group on "Ethical and regulatory challenges to science and research policy at the global level". Emilio has published more than 100 articles or monographs in peer reviewed publications and edited 9 books. He has extensively published in non reviewed journals and magazines. His editorial committee participations include Asian Bioethics, Internet Health, Psychomedia, Electronic Journal of Mental Health, Alcohol and Drugs, Journal of Ethics in Mental Health, Science and Engineering Ethics, Studies In Ethics, Law, and Technology, Encyclopaedia of Applied Ethics. Emilio is Associate Editor of Bioethics.
