Felix Gaehtgens: Microsoft releases its privacy-enabling U-Prove technology
02.03.2010
Felix Gaehtgens
-
Microsoft has just announced the availability of U-Prove - an innovative privacy-enabling technology that it acquired almost exactly two years ago. This is a significant announcement, because of two reasons: first of all, the technology is in our opinion a gigantic enabler for many applications that have been held back because of privacy concerns, and second because Microsoft is releasing the technology to the world under its "Open Specifications Promise", allowing anybody to use and incorporate the technology royalty-free.

Two of the protagonists leading the way in the wide field of - as my partner TimCole likes to put it ? Identity 2.0 is the OpenID-community on the one hand and Microsofts digital identification system CardSpace coming with Vista on the other hand. Both approaches will dramatically influence the way we will use the Internet in future. Above all, they will urge enterprises to thinking about what the communication with their customers in the web could and should be like.

User Centric Identity Case Studies from Adopters
24.04.2008 15:00-16:00
George Fletcher, AOL
-
User-centric identity is about the user being in control. However, does the user really want to be "in control" at all times? What if being "in control" leads to a less than desirable user experience? What about users who don't have the expertise to be "in control"? Should they be sacrificed to a Darwinistic fate? This talk covers the different ways that AOL has enabled user-centric principles and the lessons learned along the way.

Marc Van Coillie, EIfEL (European Institute for E-Learning)

The aim of the CV Universel project is to give to an applicant the ability to store and share his CV data information in a circle of trust of Job providers. This project is supported by the french 'Ethic and Recruiting' association as well as Syntec Recruiting' syndicate (association of more than 140 recruiting agencies in France). The CV universel will use the HR-XML / EIfEL / Europortfolio proposal for a XML binding of this CV standard using HR-XML specifications supported by the industry. To allow privacy data sharing of CV data this project will be based on the Liberty Alliance Web Service Framework including support of the draft proposal for a new Liberty Identity Service Interface Specifications for HR systems based on the HR-XML CV XML Binding. This project will...

User Centric Identity
23.04.2008 11:30-12:30
Stefan Bamberg, fun communications GmbH
-
User Centric Identities are certainly nice to have. But the question remains how to create a business cases around the exciting new technologies currently emerging. Bringing the very idea of good old fashioned customer loyalty cards to the web might be a promising way to create benefits for ID holders, issuers and acceptance partners alike. Technologies like Microsoft CardSpace (TM) or the OpenID framework can not only serve as a reliable means of authentication and authorisation, but can also be used for bonus programmes and coupon promotions. User Centric Identities may be used to serve as a customer IDs in their own right. More interesting are scenarios where a real world plastic card is being extended into the internet to have a User Centric ID as its virtual companion. The advantages for users is obvious. The promise for issuers and acceptance partners is to benefit from creating for the first time user profiles comprising the real and the virtual world at once.

07.05.2007 17:30-18:15
Dr. Jeff Jaffe, Novell
-
As enterprises move to take advantage of Identity-related concepts sweeping through the Internet, it is clear that standards alone are not enough to ensure a consistent user experience and seamless application integration. Only Open Source technology can offer the required level of transparency and portability, which is essential for the Identity-enablement of such heterogeneous environments. Allowing the enterprise to focus its efforts on empowering its users, enhancing its agility, protecting its assets and increasing its revenue. This session will examine the growth of Identity Services and explore how the usage of Open Source technology to manage run-time exchanges between applications and services, not only simplifies integration it also removes any concept of vendor lock-in.
